"Where words fail, music speaks."
-Hans Christian Andersen
My name is Judith DeFoor, and I am excited to begin another year of making music at MBES! I graduated from Furman University (Greenville, SC) in 2008 with a Bachelor of Music Education. I taught middle school chorus for two years in Laurens County, SC and for three years in Columbia, SC. I hold Level 1 Certification in Music Learning Theory from the Gordon Institute for Music Learning, and I am also a member of the Georgia Music Educator's Association and the National Association for Music Education.
I grew up in Columbia, SC, and I come from a very musical family. My father is a minister of music, my mother sings beautifully, and my sister is the music teacher at High Shoals Elementary (See her blog here: http://highshoalsmusic.blogspot.com/)! I have always loved music, and grew up singing in many choirs at church and in school. Singing in a choir gave me the unique opportunity to travel to Italy, Austria, Hungary, and Switzerland with my college choir, the Furman Singers! I live in Athens, GA with my adorable toy poodle, Murphy.
Music should be an enriching, enjoyable experience for children, and I hope to provide that type of environment in music class at MBES. We will learn about music, play musical instruments, sing, and play music games. I look forward to making music with the wonderful musicians at Malcom Bridge Elementary!
